ITEC Judges Offer Their Top Tips for Entering the #ITEC19 Awards

Whilst you enjoy the long days of summer, here at the TSA headquarters we’re busy laying the foundations for another successful annual conference in October – but this time even better! This year sees the return of the TSA ITEC Awards, which celebrate the positive impact technology enabled care services have on the lives of millions of people in the UK.

Last year saw the introduction of the ITEC Awards and we were delighted to receive a high number of submissions across the FIVE award categories. Our award judges  worked tirelessly and made some tough decisions between some very worthy entrants, and due to the high quality of submissions the judges are all back on board  in 2019.

Our judges have a huge wealth of experience in the TEC sector and we are truly delighted to welcome them back. As well as agreeing to sit on the panel, the judges have also given us some valuable insights into what they are looking forward to seeing from the submissions this year, and what to avoid when placing a submission.

Question – From your experience of judging the 2018 awards what would you like to see more of in 2019?
As a panel of judges, we are looking to see real digital innovation that challenges the status quo for the benefit of service users their families and those delivering services.
Truly leading-edge innovation in digital health technology and its roll out which has been effectively tested and had proven benefits for service users.
Change being created in traditional service delivery organisations.

Question – from your experience of judging the 2018 awards what would you like to see less of in 2019
We were pleasantly surprised last year that most of the submissions did have real merit, however it’s important to remember that just doing a job or providing a service well should not be enough to collect an award, and we really don’t want to see non-innovation implementation of things already done elsewhere unless being done much better and evidenced that this the case.

Question – What are you top three tips for writing a successful entry?
When judging the awards it’s really important for us that submissions are clear and concise about what you have done, why you have done it and the real difference it has made and to who.

Also do not just use material lifted from marketing brochures / leaflets – clearly evidence and quantify the impact with regard to service improvement, improved quality of live for service users and carers or cost savings through process improvement.

Finally, be bold and celebrate your innovation! Tell us how you got there and remember that small steps can lead to big changes.
